TORONTO, Jun 13, 2006 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX News Network) -- Tahera Diamond Corporation (TSX-TAH) is pleased
to announce that its Jericho Mine Rescue Team placed first in the Surface Mine
Category in the 40th Annual Mine Rescue Competition hosted by the Workers'
Compensation Board (WCB) of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut in
Yellowknife on June 9th and 10th, 2006. Competition included teams from the
Ekati Diamond Mine and the Diavik Diamond Mine. The competition involved eight
mine rescue events including simulated disasters, a written exam, and safety
equipment inspections.
The Jericho Diamond Mine competition team members were Kevin Foster (team
captain), Anthony Bayduza, Bruce McCarthy, Corey Kinsey, Maurice Kay, Mike
Tanguay, and coach Dale Craig. All team members exhibited a high level of
skill and knowledge regarding emergency response situations to place first in
the competition. Their accomplishment represents the first time ever that an
inaugural team has won the competition in the 40 year history of the event.
The team now qualifies to compete in the bi-annual Western Regional Mine
Rescue Competition in September 2007.
"Tahera's team is to be congratulated for their success in this
competition. We are very pleased with this performance, which reflects the
quality of the Jericho Mine employees and their ongoing commitment to mine
safety", said Peter Gillin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tahera
