Tahera Concludes Final Environmental Hearing for the Jericho Diamond Project

01/13/2004

Toronto – January 13, 2004

Tahera Corporation announces that it has concluded the Final Public Hearing for its Jericho Diamond Project. The Hearing was conducted in the Nunavut communities of Cambridge Bay, Kugluktuk, and Gjoa Haven during the week of January 5 – 9, 2004. The Hearing provided a forum for Tahera to present its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB), regulators, and other interested parties. The Nunavut Impact Review Board will now prepare its recommendations regarding the Jericho Diamond Project. The recommendations will then be forwarded to the Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs for federal approval. It is anticipated that the NIRB recommendations regarding Tahera’s Jericho Diamond Project will be announced within 30 days.

Jericho Diamond Project
Tahera is focused on developing its wholly-owned Jericho Diamond Project as Nunavut’s first diamond mine. The Jericho Diamond Project feasibility study indicates robust economics for a diamond mine centered on the land-based Jericho kimberlite. Tahera is targeting completion of both permitting and project financing initiatives during 2004, and plans to advance the Jericho Project to commercial production as quickly as possible. When in production, Tahera will be one of only two Canadian public companies with production from a Canadian diamond source and unique in owning 100% of its mine.

Inuit Impact Benefit Agreement (IIBA)
As previously announced, Tahera and the Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) reached an agreement in principle with respect to an IIBA for the Jericho Diamond Project in December 2003. The IIBA, which outlines the benefits that will be provided to Inuit as a result of the development and operation of the Jericho Diamond Mine, is now available on the Company’s website. Tahera and the KIA expect to formally sign the agreement at a ceremony in Nunavut in early 2004. The IIBA will be consistent with the terms and conditions of project approval.
