About Our Industry – Diamond Markets
Canada is the world’s fourth largest producer of diamonds by value.
The rough diamond market continues to experience price weakness, with indications that the Diamond Trading Company has recently decreased the price of some categories of rough diamonds. The lower quality goods continue to experience the most pricing pressure, with a generally stronger market for the larger and better quality goods.
Most observers continue to anticipate attractive and rising market prices for rough diamonds. The longer term market for rough diamonds looks positive, with compelling supply and demand trends. World rough diamond supply is forecast to be modestly increasing to flat over the next 10 years, with world demand during this same period increasing at a significant rate as demand grows, especially in the Far East.
