The Lapa mine poured its first gold and reached commercial production on May 1, 2009, becoming Agnico-Eagle’s third mine to open in the Abitibi region of northwestern Quebec. The Company’s richest gold mine has proven and probable reserves containing approximately 0.8 million ounces of gold (3.2 million tonnes grading 8.2 grams/tonne gold).
First Quarter 2010
- Produced 31,553 ounces of gold, at a total cash cost per ounce of $489 in the three-month period
- Ore production averaged 1,432 tonnes per day in Q1 2010, higher than expected. The design rate of 1,500 tonnes/day is expected to be achieved in Q2 2010. All Lapa ore is processed at LaRonde site.
- Minesite costs of C$123 per tonne in the three-month period
- 2010 exploration into new areas to be facilitated by exploration drift, allowing drilling along-trend to east and at depth
