LaRonde is Agnico-Eagle’s flagship mine, located in the Abitibi region of northwestern Quebec. With proven and probable gold reserves of 4.8 million ounces (34.4 million tonnes grading 4.4 grams/tonne gold), LaRonde has one of the largest gold reserves of any mine operating in Canada.
First Quarter 2010
- Payable gold production of 45,036 ounces at a total cash cost of $167 per ounce (net of byproduct credits) in the three-month period. Also produced 875,000 ounces of silver, 14,200 tonnes of zinc and 1,000 tonnes of copper
- Processed an average of 7,372 tonnes of ore per day
- Effective cost control despite industry-wide cost pressures, with minesite costs of about $71 per tonne
- Construction continued on the LaRonde Extension project; internal production shaft reached the final depth of 2,855 metres late in 2009
- Project on schedule to start production in late 2011
- From 2011, LaRonde expects to produce an average of 324,000 ounces of gold annually over the mine life, reflecting higher gold grades at depth
- Exploration focused on converting resources to reserves, and investigating additional potential at depth
