The Kittila mine poured its first gold in January 2009, and reached commercial production on May 1, 2009, becoming Agnico-Eagle’s first mine to open outside of Canada. The Kittila mine, in northern Finland, has proven and probable gold reserves containing 4.0 million ounces (26.0 million tonnes grading 4.8 grams/tonne gold).
First Quarter 2010
- Produced 24,547 ounces of gold, at a total cash cost per ounce of $735 in the three-month period
- Minesite costs averaged €64 per tonne
- Mineral processing plant averaged 2,419 tonnes per day and 71% gold recovery in Q1 2010; both decreased from Q4 2009 due to an extended scheduled maintenance shutdown in the plant. The design rate of 83% gold recovery is expected to be achieved by the end of 2010.
- Scoping study underway to examine increasing the production rate from the current design rate of 3,000 tonnes/day; results to be released in 2011
- Focus of exploration drilling in 2010 on resource to reserve conversion, and increasing the resource beneath the Suuri and Roura zones and to the north
