Environment

While Nunavut leaders aggressively seek development possibilities, the local people remain very aware of the importance of promoting responsible development and ensuring that the impact on the environment is kept to a minimum and that wildlife is protected in the Company's plans. Tahera also believes in responsible development.

Since the inception of our exploration efforts in 1993, Tahera has had a comprehensive Environmental Plan in place. This plan adheres to our commitment to minimizing the impact of our work on the environment.

The diamond mining production process is internationally recognized for its low levels of negative impact on the environment. It is however acknowledged that there is much to learn from our community stakeholders. The protection of fauna, flora and water demands a knowledge and expertise that can only be achieved by way of a vigorous environmental policy.

Environmental Policy

It is Tahera’s policy to achieve a high standard of environmental care in conducting its business as a resource company. Tahera’s approach to environmental management seeks continuous improvement in performance by taking account of evolving knowledge and community expectations.

Specifically, it is Tahera’s policy to:

  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations and standards; uphold the spirit of the law; and where laws do not adequately protect the environment, apply standards that minimize any adverse environmental impacts resulting from its operations;
  • Communicate openly with government and the community on environmental issues, and contribute to the development of policies, legislation and regulations that may affect Tahera;
  • Ensure that its employees and suppliers of goods and services are aware of this policy and of their environmental responsibilities in relation to Tahera’s operations;
  • Ensure that it has management systems in place to identify, control and monitor environmental risks arising from its operations and to reduce environmental impact prior to their occurrence;
  • Conduct research and establish programs that conserve resources, minimize waste, improve processes and protect the environment;
  • Take appropriate corrective actions should unexpected environmental impacts occur. Appropriate actions will be taken to prevent reoccurrence of such unexpected impacts.
